Why EYO?

The goals of the conference are:

  • to provide young women with opportunities to meet and interact with positive women role models who are active in math and science related careers;
  • to increase the interest of young women in math and science by providing exciting and fun hands-on learning experiences and;
  • to encourage young women to study as much math and science as possible to keep a wide range of career choices open to them.

Who can attend?

Any young woman attending 7th grade in a NYC or Westchester County school, public or private. (Total enrollment limited to 150.)

Any adult interested in learning how he/she can be more supportive in encouraging middle school girls to continue their studies in science, technology and math. (Total adult enrollment limited to 50.)

EYO History

In 1976, the Math/Science Network—now the Expanding Your Horizons Network—created Expanding Your Horizons in Science and Mathematics™(EYH™ ) Conferences as an intervention strategy designed to nurture girls' interest in mathematics and science courses and to encourage them to expand their career visions to include science and mathematics based careers. Since the first conference was held at Mills College in Oakland in California in 1976, more than 550,000 6th through 12th-grade young women and over 75,000 parents and educators have attended EYH™ Conferences. In the 2000-2001 year there were 100 active individual conferences held in 28 states, reaching approximately 28,000 students. AAUW New York City, AAUW Westchester and Barnard College are proud to follow in this long tradition of supporting girls. Starting 2008, we bring the same conference to you under the new name Explore Your Opportunities - The Sky's the Limit!
